Texas Longhorn Bull, depicting the rugged freedom and wild spirit of the early day Texas cattle that roamed the Southwest by the millions. These cattle evolved from Spanish ancestors and developed the long horn in-order to survive in the rugged terrain and conditions. These cattle were used first in the hide an tallow trade, then to feed the ever growing population of the East. Millions of head of longhorns were driven up the trail through horrendous conditions to numerous shipping points. The longhorn was instrumental in the establishment of cities such as Abilene, Kansas City, and Dodge City. Eventually they were used to populate the vast grazing regions of the west. This breed was the foundation stock for all the major cattle operations of the west until English breeds were introduced.
