Artist,
Rancher, Buckaroo, Bull Rider, Teacher, and Humanitarian . . .
Jeff
Wolf is one of the select few whose work is drawn from the heart.
Raised in the high desert of Western Utah at the family ranch that was
once a pony express station and stage coach stop, Jeff learned firsthand
what it's like to drive cattle in a freezing blizzard, out run flash
floods, and choke on dust from the back of a trail herd. After
a long professional career as a bull rider Jeff returned to another
passion as a buckaroo in the Great Basin of Nevada and Utah. Through
his life's experiences the sculptures he has created are actual memorials
to moments captured in time…viewed and experienced through his
own eyes.
From
his earliest memory Jeff had an insatiable appetite for creating and
drawing pieces of the West. At age six he began molding little
western figures out of clay with uncommon reality and had his first
piece published in Western Horseman at the age of eight, a soap carving
of a buffalo. In high school Jeff continually honed his talents
while competing with his other love, rodeo. His senior year took
him to the National Finals in Bull riding and at the age of 17 he left
the ranch in pursuit of a full time professional rodeo career competing
in the Bareback and Bull riding events for the next eight years.
Although
he loved the life rodeo and of a buckaroo, Jeff decided to return to
sculpting and entered his first National juried art show where he won
best in sculpture and best of show. Since that time he has won
the top honors at 23 of 27 national juried shows a as well as countless
local and regional shows. The awards include, Best of show "Horses
in Motion" Equine Show, Kentucky Derby Museum, Lexington, KY.,
Best of show George Phippen Memmorial, Prescott, AZ, Gold and silver
Indian heritage award, Winnemucca, NV, Best of show Salt Lake Pro Am
Rodeo Western Art Show, SLC, UT.
Other
honors include 2000 featured artist for the Days of 47 Western Heritage
Art Show, SLC, UT. He shares that honor with art legends such
as Ed Fraughton, Arnold Freiburg, and Grant Speed. Jeff was selected
to sculpt live at a benefit event held in conjunction with Super Bowl
XXXIV. His work is also featured in four Museums including the
Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame, and is collected internationally.
Recognized
as a teacher he also holds workshops throughout the west, many of his
students have become recognized professionals. Wolf claims his
greatest honor is that his works have raised over a quarter of a million
dollars for the betterment of life through select charity events such
as the Cystic Fibrosis Celebrity Ski Benefit, and Breast Cancer with
the Susan G. Kommen Foundation just to list a few.
